Offensive Homework

My daughter was working on her homework the other day and she slammed the pencil down. "This homework is offensive!" I went over and saw she was working on counting coins.

"What is offensive about it?"

"So and so wants jelly beans for $1.13. So and so wants a chocolate bar for $1.25. So and so wants bubble gum for $0.87. Doesn't anyone eat grapes or carrot sticks? Geez."

I held back my laughter - and my pride - and said, "Well, you still have to do it. The point is learning to count the money, not really what they are buying."

So, she did it. Reluctantly. Then she changed the tags from jelly beans to snap peas, chocolate bars to oranges and bubble gum to grapes.

I love her.
