I talked to our case manager at our insurance about our son's upcoming treatment...#2 of what we hope won't be 2. The clinical director at the insurance company has decided that they will allow a second treatment - BUT in the hospital (instead of at home as originally planned). AND, if he has a reaction to this treatment, he'll no longer be eligible for insurance assistance on them.
What they DON'T know is that we're changing insurance companies in February. Therefore, the worst case scenario, should he have a reaction, is that we take a month off and then in February, we'll have a clean slate.
The thing is...if he has another reaction, do we even want him taking the treatments? If he doesn't, there are consequences (additional health issues that could occur...and him continuing to be sick all the time). If he does have a a reaction, but gets long-term benefits, is it worth making a 7 year old sick, in order to make him better?
So, it's really out of our hands. I'd say its in the hands of the insurance companies and doctors. But really, it's in God's hands. There's no other way to think about it and not want to bang my head against a wall. We're doing the best we can do. We have to let go, and let God.
