Date Night

Last Friday (almost a week ago - aagh!), my husband and I snuck away for the day. How nice it was to have a day where we could just be quiet. We talked if we wanted to or had something to say - which ended up being a lot - but it was GROWN UP talk. No "MOMMMIIIIEEEE" or crying or whining....well, except for the kids in Toys R Us!

After doing a little Christmas shopping, headed over to a favorite restaurant to share a lunch. We never go there with our little ones because a) our kids HATE to go anywhere...near, far or in between and b) everything they serve has some sort of "green" in it...aka "healthy." It was delightful.

But dinner....well, dinner was the main event. We had a gift card to an upscale restaurant that we'd always wanted to try but were too chicken to. We spent the day all dressed up just for dinner there. And let me tell you, most people don't dress up for a Toys R Us run! After being seated in the candlelight, our "wine guy" came over and introduced the wine list. Being the rookie drinkers we are, we asked for recommendations. Take it from me - accept the wine guys recommendations. He's good at what he does. MMMM.

Then our waiter came over. He talked us through the specials, the menu and presented delicious breads and dips. We enjoyed each other's company and just relaxed. The meal came. We were unprepared. Appetizer - wonderful - eggplant cakes. Salads - delicous honey mango dressing and greens. YUMMO. Main course - he got trout, I got chicken cordon bleu - with sides of red bliss mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon saute. Dessert next - bananas foster.

People - THERE IS A DIFFERENCE between run-of-the-mill food and expensive, quality food. If you haven't had the opporunity to taste the difference - indulge yourself. You'll never be sorry. Even the left-overs are better than chain-restaurant food.

What a wonderful experience. How lucky I am to have a husband I enjoy spending time with. How lucky I am to have food to eat when others don't. What a fun night.
