Our trip to Las Vegas was 13 years overdue, and everything we expected it would be. We have never before gone on a “vacation” where we came back feeling awesome, relaxed and rejuvenated…of course all of our “trips” have consisted of herding our children or hurrying to the next scheduled work obligation. Now that we’ve had a taste of what a vacation really is, you can bet that we’ll be going back. SOON. Here are some highs and lows from our fabulous trip:
HIGHS
Starting each day at the pool – a pool all to ourselves (one of seven). People thought it was private because of the cabanas surrounding it. It wasn’t, we asked. But it was private for us!
Spending one entire afternoon at that same private pool, drinking a pina colada (my first ever), and just holding my husband’s hand. No talking required. Just relaxing.
Seeing Phantom of the Opera. AMAZING.
Not having an agenda, expectations, or commitments. Just whatever, whenever.
Not thinking about money, infusion or insurance.
Not wiping butts, feeding dogs, or answering phones.
Not having to do anything for myself – someone brought me drinks. People made my food. They laid out my towels at the pool, offered to apply my sunscreen (hubby stuck with this job), and catered to my EVERY NEED.
Eating at the most fabulous restaurants with food so tasteful, there’s NO WAY you could recreate it in your own kitchen.
Gawking at the architecture. They recreate Venice, New York, Paris, and Greece INSIDE hotels. The replication is so real, you can’t imagine it’s man-made.
Winning $70 at a slot machine – on the hotel’s dime – then walking away. (the hotel pictured above was ours - The Palazzo).
Watching the Bellagio fountains at night. Incredible.
Putting on a two-piece swimming suit and not feeling hideous in it. I even allowed a FEW pictures.
LOWS
Coming home so soon
MGM Grand, the Luxor and Excalibur were kind of a let-down. I had higher expectations. We left feeling like we’d wasted time. They were still neat – so if this was “Low” then we did pretty well.
Falling down – completely sober, mind you – I just tripped. I’m no Grace Kelly. Luckily my body wasn’t hurt – just my ego!
The airplane rides. I HATE to fly. But it’s a small price to pay for going somewhere cool. Luckily my iPod kept me distracted, and I just kept my eyes closed for two hours.
Notice that the HIGHS list is WAYYYY longer than the LOWS list. I'm so grateful to have had this experience - and look forward to it again next year. Someday maybe we'll go someplace different - but two hours away, in a city where you can do ANYTHING seems like a pretty safe bet. Ha ha, get it? A safe BET. ('Cause it's Vegas, casinos...).
