The Good Old Days

For my current grad school class, we're analyzing movies for their film score.  (doesn't sound real? It's part of the "creative arts" section, it's wicked hard, don't be fooled). This has caused me to step out of my comfort zone, but also has made me realize how much I LOVE to watch good movies.  Movies that I never knew were good.

Here's what we've watched so far.  If you haven't seen them, get out from under the rock you were sharing with me and watch them.

Singing in the Rain -- ok, everyone KNOWS this film, but have you REALLY watched it??
The Royal Wedding -- could Fred Astaire be any more awesome?
Purple Rose of Cairo -- Jeff Daniels = AMAZING
The Artist -- there are about a million reasons this was award-winning.  W-O-W.
Cotton Club -- Richard Gere, Diane Lane, Gregory Hines, Nicolas Cage...need more reasons?
All That Jazz -- least fave so far, but Roy Scheider was seriously talented, holy cow.

That's just the first three weeks. Aside from what we're doing in class, just watching movies with Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire with my kids makes me long for movies that don't, well, SUCK.

Editor's Note: do NOT watch Cotton Club or All That Jazz with the kids (good music, not kid-appropriate content).
