Apologetic Hosts

Has anyone noticed that when you go out to eat, wait in line, go through a drive through, etc. that the precursor to the conversation between you and your host/waiter is "Hi, welcome to (insert place here), I'm sorry for the wait." Later, it's "I'm sorry it's taking so long" and "I'm sorry the food is cold" and "I'm sorry that the bill is wrong" and, and, and.

Yesterday while we were dining at Red Lobster, "I'm sorry" was a statement made at our table so often that our 3 year old daughter said, "I'm tired of him being sorry."

Tell me about it.
