10 things about Bunks

My 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter share bunk beds. This was an arrangement my husband and I were a little apprehensive about given their ages, but we haven't had any issues at all. In fact, they LOVE them (and so do we). Here are 10 things about their bunks:

• Never underestimate a 2 year old. My daughter learned to climb the ladder to the top bunk in about 2.5 minutes. But so far, she doesn't try to climb down, she just yells until someone comes running.
• The bottom bunk makes a great fort when sheets and blankets are draped from the top bunk.
• There is no more climbing into bed with the 5 year old if there are nighttime fears.
• You can climb into bed with the 2 year old if there are nighttime fears - which makes the 5 year old really angry.
• They make for great monkey swinging.
• It's impossible to "make the bed" with bunks. You just can't do it. So my son thinks it's pretty cool that all his other friends have that chore and he doesn't.
• I'm a horrible mother and don't wash the sheets every week. See point above.
• When our bedroom is off limits, the bottom bunk makes a great hiding spot for the dog.
• Touching the ceiling is the most awesome trick in the world! My son laughs with delight every time he does it. Somehow, it never gets old.
• The bunks have brought my children closer together. Not long ago, my daughter was staying with grandma and our son cried "I can't go to sleep without her!" Ugh, tear at the heart strings why don't you?
