Mr. Fix It

I love my husband!! Here is one of the many reasons why.

On Sunday, we went to see my folks and grandma. My parents are NOT post-modern people. They stare at their computer and go “huh?” and talk to it like Scotty did in Star Trek, expecting it to do things at their command. Ok, so some computers do this. But not most run of the mill Dells. My mom tries hard – she wants to email and play bridge online. She also does some typing for my dad. But she doesn’t understand anything beyond that. She did something “very wrong” and needed help… fast. My husband, always in high demand for his techie skills, rescued her. He worked his magic and got her computer running again. While there, he also fixed their TV, DVD player, VCR and electric griddle. He was the star of the show.

With my parents all fixed up, we went next door to visit my grandma for a few minutes and she had been up all night crying and worrying because her clothes dryer had died. My dad had taken a look, she had called my uncle, and she had shopped for a new one, got quotes from repairmen and finally just decided to sleep on it. She asked my husband to take a quick look.

“Where’s your breaker box?” he asked. He found it and flipped the breaker and the dryer started again. My grandmother fell to pieces – she grabbed my husband and hugged him tight. She cried on his shoulder and thanked him for being so wonderful. You could see on her face how much she missed my grandfather and his fix-it-all hands at that moment. She thanked me for finding and marrying my husband – “Your grandpa would sure be proud of you both.”

Then, wiping her eyes - “Can you look at my lawn mower while you are here?”

He did, and fixed it. Then he fixed my dad’s snow blower. He saved the day.

Not every man would do this for his in-laws and grandmother-in-law. But my husband isn’t every man. He’s not the man of my dreams either – he’s more than I ever could have dreamed of and I love him more every day!
