Summertime is here in full force. It occurred to me today that it's actually about half over (at least in terms of school days). While the temps outside have been pretty moderate, there have been lots of reminders about what summertime is all about. Here are 10 things I know about summertime:
- An inflatable swimming pool doesn't really hold a candle to a beautiful, heated, in-ground pool with shade trees, a hammock and floaties (see pics above).
- The smell of barbequeing meat can make anyone hungry.
- Mosquitoes are stupid and make my children cry.
- Summer ailments (colds, ear infections, flu) are much more irritating than winter ones.
- The grass ALWAYS needs cut.
- Early morning thunderstorms make snooze buttons your friend.
- Having to work while others golf makes you feel like a nobody.
- In the absence of your fave shows, you can always find a good baseball game on.
- Family get-togethers are a lot of work - but also a lot of fun.
- Sno-cones taste good any time of day (or night.)
So raise a beer stein (it can be filled with lemonade if you wish) and salute summertime. And just think, if global warming doesn't stop, we could be saluting summertime year-round!

AMEN to ailments in the summer being way worse than in the winter. Now the big kid is puking - maybe it wasn't a fluke for the little kid!
