Pet Peeves, part 1

Anyone who knows me well knows that I’m a little difficult to please. That said, there are admittedly A LOT of things that annoy me. Here is the first installment of a few little pet peeves that have my blood boiling these days:

My neighbor guy never wears a shirt. This would be ok if he was especially good looking. But this man is not only NOT good looking, but he’s an absolute jerk to his wife, his children, his employees, and anyone he meets. Last night we were out playing in the backyard with our kids and here he comes, driving into his driveway with his whole family. They look like they’ve been to the store and unload several grocery bags from the trunk, but he’s shirtless. Could he possibly have shopped like that? Or is just insane enough to strip off the shirt when he got back into the car? Weirdo.

Same neighbor has a cat that has kittens. They kept one kitten that they tortured just enough to be attached to. This kitten, now almost full grown but still weighing about 3 pounds because they never feed it, has decided that our home should be her home. She’s wrong. This cat cries all night, hides in our garage, gets in our trash and tries to attack our children at any sight of them. While I do feel sorry for her that she is neglected, what that cat doesn’t know is that I know how to use my limestone rock in more ways than just yard decoration. My dog also is very fond of cat a la’ mode.

Our McDonald’s is closed for remodeling. This wouldn’t be such a horrible thing if the one in the nearest town wasn’t also closed. It’s one of three fast food places in nowheresville, and now it’s closed indefinitely. This means incessant crying from my children when we drive by (which we do every day) because they want “Happy Donald’s” so badly. Wendy’s just will NOT work. Time to find a new route I guess.

There is no place to park when picking my son up from school. This is a common complaint. But if people parked “normally” and there wasn’t room, I’d understand. Instead, in a spot where two cars could park, people choose to park their beater trucks in the middle of the spot so it won’t get door dings, forcing me to park blocks away and walk to the school in just enough time to get him, race back to the car, race to daycare and back to work. Meanwhile, the drivers of the beater trucks mosey on back to the farm or wherever it is they go without their kids in a seatbelt.

Pharmacies don’t call insurance companies to get approval for you. Instead, they make you wait, and then tell you they can’t fill it, that you’ll have to call your insurance company. So you drive 10 minutes home, make the 3 second phone call, drive 10 minutes back and wait in line again. Just as it’s your turn, the window closes and it’s time for the pharmacist to have lunch. It’s no wonder they have that little blood pressure checker next to the line – and then they wonder why everyone’s is mysteriously high.

Whew, ok, I feel better now. I’m sure glad I have cyberspace to vent to!
