She Screams for Ice Cream

My daughter’s birthday is coming up this weekend, and we had thought about skipping the ice cream. We’d have to have an insane amount of it for the number of people coming through to help celebrate. But then something changed all of that.

We don’t eat a lot of ice cream at our house – at least not out in the open. I eat an occasional low-cal fruit pop after the kids are in bed, but our son isn’t a fan of ice cream and when my husband digs in, it’s in the quiet hours of the night when no one is looking (he even hides it for safe keeping). It never occurred to us that this was harming our daughter! But this weekend, she got out a plastic bowl from the tupperware drawer, a spoon, a bib and climbed into a dining room chair. We asked what she was up to and she started singing “Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you!” We about died laughing! She wanted ice cream and thought the only way to get it was to have a birthday!

So there WILL be ice cream at her party – and in our freezer for anytime consumption from now on.
