Later in the day, he was eating pizza and came running over to me. "Mommy, Mommy! My tooth came out, and I didn't even swallow it!!" He was so excited.
When daddy got home, he heard all about this milestone. My husband proceeded to tell him all about the tooth fairy, with the assistance of one of our son's stuffed animals.
Dad: "First, she flies in like this and sprinkles pixie dust on your eyes."
Son: "Why does she do that?"
Dad: "So you don't wake up. Then she lifts up your pillow and gets the tooth out."
Son: "Why does she take the tooth? Shouldn't mommy keep it in my baby book?"
Dad: "Yeah, she's kind of freaky that way. She keeps all the teeth in a jar. Then she puts money in the box where the tooth was."
Son: "Then what?"
Dad: "She sprinkles pixie dust on you again and flies out."
Son: "Why does she sprinkle more dust? Aren't I still asleep from the last time she did it?"
Dad: "She doesn't want you to remember she was there."
My son was officially freaked out and almost didn't go to bed! Thankfully the tooth fairy came, nothing weird happened, he got money and all is well.
