Bathroom Safety

Following my Q-Tip incident, I decided we needed to have a bathroom safety talk with our children. While they were in the bath and a captive audience last night, I went through the bathroom inch by inch and in my best airline stewardess voice, laid down the rules.

First, the vanity. “Never EVER put a Q-Tip in your ear. Never EVER turn the water on unless a grown up is with you. Never EVER open anything from under the sink unless a grown up says it’s ok. Never EVER plug in the hairdryer or curling iron. Never EVER try to comb your hair by yourself (for my daughter – she lost some hair recently getting a comb stuck in it that had to be cut out).”

Moving onto the toilet area. “Never EVER flush without showing a grownup what you are flushing. Never EVER use more than 5 squares of toilet paper by yourself. Never EVER put your hands in the toilet.”

And the shower/tub. “Never EVER turn on the water by yourself, never EVER dump bubbles in or try to get in or out alone. Never EVER get near the bathtub with anything that has a cord.”

“Mommy?” my son asked.

“Yes?” I replied.

“What CAN we do in the bathroom?”

My daughter chimed in. “Never EVER have fun.”
